研究課題:The gendered impact of hour constraints on time allocation and learning outcomes of junior medical interns
1.研究の目的・方法
This research aims to assess the causal impact of the new 2024 labor law, which limits maximum overtime hours, on gender differences in time allocation and learning outcomes (including test results and specialty preferences) among comparable Japanese medical interns.
We plan to integrate the GMITE test data with its survey data, linking it to hospital surveys and medical school quality measures, and then use regression analysis to examine causality. Although we use existing, pre-planned datasets, the empirical approach is prospective and observational because we follow participants through their first and second years and focus on changes in their learning outcomes from the first to the second year.
Besides utilizing GMITE results, we also intend to include the following variables from JAMEP’s surveys and the Medical Institutional Database from FY2020 to FY2025.
• B004 Establishment Type (National / Public / Private)
• B005 Classification (University-affiliated / Community-based)
• B008 Prefecture
• B009 City / Ward / County
• B012 Residency Matching Participation (Yes / No)
• B013 Number of Residency Slots

We aim to complete the project within 5 years after receiving the data from JAMEP.

Because anonymization is conducted at an early stage of the research process, withdrawal of consent will no longer be possible once consent has been provided and the data have been anonymized. However, participants may request withdrawal of consent within one month from the initiation of this study, provided that such withdrawal is technically feasible.
If a research participant, or their legally authorized representative, does not consent to the use of their information for this study, the individual will not be included as a research subject. In such cases, please download the “Form for Non-Consent to Research Use” from the JAMEP website (https://jamep.or.jp/ic/), complete the required information, and submit the form to the contact address listed below. Refusal to provide consent will not result in any disadvantage to the individual.
